HANDHELD
SETUP AND SYNCHRONIZATION
I.
INSTALL DESKTOP COMMUNICATION SOFTWARE
Windows 7 and Windows Vista
1. Download and install Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1
(64-bit) http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=3182
(32-bit) http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=14
Windows XP
1. Download and install Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=15
Windows XP and Windows Vista
2. Setup a device partnership for the handheld
a. Connect cradle to USB port of your computer.
b. Place handheld in cradle
c. Follow on screen instructions for setting up your partnership
II.
INSTALL INQUEST ONTO THE HANDHELD DEVICE
1. Place handheld in cradle
2. Once the handheld is connected via ActiveSync or the Windows Mobile Device Center
a. Start Inquest on the desktop computer
b. From the “Handhelds” menu select “Install”
c. In the displayed dialog, select the type handheld you are using
i. Windows Mobile 6
ii. Windows Mobile 5
iii. Pocket PC 2003
d. Click the “Install” button
e. The install process will start; follow the onscreen instructions accepting the defaults.
III.
START
THE INQUEST REMOTE SERVER
1. From the “Start” menu select “All Programs”.
2. From the “Technosoft” program group select “Remote Server”.
3. The running program can be seen in the system tray and is represented by a globe icon.
4. To open the “Remote Server”
a. Right click on the remote server icon in the system tray
b. Select the “Open Remote Server Utility” menu option
c. The displayed screen will show the “Server IP Address” this will be shown as
“Listening for client on 192.168.1.99…” or something similar.
The 4 numbers will be needed when setting up the handheld to sync for the first time.
5. Setting the Remote Server to start automatically
a. Open Inquest on the desktop
b. From the “Customize” menu select “Options”
c. Select the “Synchronization” tab
d. Check the “Run the Remote Server at system startup” checkbox
NOTE: Windows administrator access is required to set this option.
IV.
SYNCRONIZE THE HANDHELD (*** FIRST TIME ****)
1. Place handheld in cradle.
2. Allow the handheld to connect via ActiveSync or the Windows Mobile Device Center
3. Start Inquest on the handheld
a. Tap “Start”
b. Tap “Programs”
c. Tap the Inquest icon
4. From the “Work Orders” list tab
a. Tap the “Menu” and select “Synchronize”
5. Enter a technician name in the “Technician” field
NOTE: Entering a name that already exists in the database will tie the handheld to the existing technician. Entering a new name will create a new technician name in the Inquest database.
6. Enter the “Server IP Address”
7. Tap the “Apply” menu item
8. Tap the “Sync” menu item
9. Authorize the handheld to synchronize with the Inquest database
a. Open the Inquest Remote Server on the desktop computer
b. From the “Handhelds” menu select “Technicians”
c. Select the technician name and click the “Edit” button
d. In the displayed dialog place a checkmark in the checkbox next to your company name
e. Click the OK button
f. Close the list of technician names
10. Tap the “Sync” menu item
11. The synchronization process is finished when you see the message “Offline” on the handheld
V.
SYNCRONIZE THE HANDHELD (*** NORMAL ***)
1. Place handheld in cradle.
2. Allow the handheld to connect via ActiveSync or the Windows Mobile Device Center
3. Start Inquest on the handheld
4. From the “Work Orders” list tab
a. Tap the “Menu” and select “Synchronize”
5. Tap the “Sync” menu item
6. The synchronization process is finished when you see the message “Offline” on the handheld
