Connecting to an Existing SQL Server Database

 

 

1.    Start Inquest

2.    The first screen to display is “Open Company Data Source”

3.    Click the “New data source…” button

4.    The “Data Connection Wizard” will display

5.    Select “Open and existing database”, click “Next”

6.    Select “Microsoft SQL Server”, click “Next”

7.    Enter your SQL Server Information (dependent on your installation of SQL Server)

·         Server name

·         Log on credentials

8.    Click “Next”

9.    Enter the database name

10.  Click “Finish”

 

The program will now open.  Starting Inquest in the future will show your company database in the “Open Company Data Source” database list.

 

 

Determine Existing Database Server and Name

 

Step 7 requires you to know the server and SQL Server instance name.  And step 9 requires you to know the database name for your Inquest database.

The following procedure can be used to determine the correct server and database name.

 

From a workstation that is currently using the Inquest database. 

 

1.    Start Inquest

2.    The first screen to display is “Open Company Data Source”

3.    Highlight the company name in the database list

4.    Below the list of database names you will see “Server” and “Database”.

5.    Use this information in steps 7 and 9.
